murder is big business

eating meat in our society is so normalised that the grotesque is rendered invisible. reality blurred.

carcasses hang like clothing drying on a hills hoist when wandering in chinatown [a culture which has the honesty to call a chicken a chicken, present it as is, sans polystyrene disguise & utilise all the body parts].

intensive farm practices dealing with the combined propaganda & promotion of inaccurate information that "meat is good for you" & that
"you're not normal if you don't like chicken" are increasingly dishing up to your dinner plate diseased & vitamin deficient excuses for animals that are so pumped up with steroids, antibiotics & reverse-engineered diets that it's kind of ridiculous to still call them a chook [unless the terminology is redefined here]. don't even get me started on mad cow disease, swine flu et al...

fact is science has now proven that meat [all meat including chicken] undoubtedy alters DNA - arguably not in a good way unless you have a bowel cancer fetish. in fact it may even be worse for your body than radiation [it is studied in the same sentence as a major contributing environmental factor by scientists internationally including australia].

the meat industry knows this. the government knows this. oh, but it tastes so good... right? looks like some of the sheep aren't making it to the slaughterhouse after all.

it should be mandatory for young school children as part of their educational field trips to tour intensive farms, watch the manic debeaked chickens still peck each other to death in enclosed places whilst popping out a bird flu flavored egg as the rats run amok under fluro chewing on bits of the living where they can, stand on the abattoir line watching young lambs & calves sweat in terror as they face the inevitable excruciating death at the end of the conveyor belt, first through the killing chute for electrocution or semi-consciousness by pneumatic ram [depending on the killing house idiosyncrasy] before whilst still alive having hooks skewered through the rear legs to hang upside down on the belt before throats are slit over a large trough where rivers of blood travel down & the now usually dead animal is submerged in boiling water to loosen the skin before the fur/hair is scraped off & gutting commmences. that's a school expedition i would jump on the bus for.

that's not even getting into any of the fun political & pharmaceutical stuff behind the scenes. so many $ at stake. as one of the most powerful lobby groups [along with oil & pharmaceutical] the meat industry in all its various incarnations are the hidden truth behind one of the great unsustainable & ethically dubious excesses of our so called civilisation. eating meat is one of the major contributing reasons for world poverty, disease and hunger. apparently brain-washed taste buds override all...

acrosternum hilare apocalypse

a blanketed sea of stink bugs. unified by the downward spiralling hum as they fall like bibilical frogs from the trees to litter this back alley & child care centre playground in tortured death. the soft stench fills the air.

ishtar's devotees dance

last night was another punk monk propaganda inspired event: "suck my pagan" this time hosted by stevie & myself in honor of his birthday at the warehouse.

amongst the debris of streamers and broken fawn hearts a few photos survived. the usual suspects may be assured as per standard procedure the rest will surface in my updated FB photo album in due course.

this is a mere morsel of the party which went till the full moon was no longer visible in the morning sky & the mead from the earth ran dry... and yes, we did build a full-sized carnival maypole for the day: stevie's pièce de résistance! ornate cloaks and capes were de rigueur, as were flower garlands, ivy and daisy chains. a sight to behold even with the temporary but beautifully averted pole collapse.

heads up to matthieu for volunteering for the role of undercover helper during the unglamorous sunlight hours when a strict self-flagellating monastic life was beckoning hard. french art directors make excellent chivalrous slaves.

plus a big thank you to all our friends who helped especially raen, davey, kate, barry and the rest of you who made the pilgrimage to suck my pagan, our last big party at the warehouse, well worthy of remembrance.

once again i'm humbled by your beauty & love. it's ok to sound like a born-again hippie after such a feel-good earthly event...

follow the trail of grates

the australian gas light company introduced the use of public gas to city streets in 1841. fifteen years later it was turned on for public home use in melbourne [sydney was a little behind].

since the discovery of natural gas [1900], old town gas which was generated through the burning of fossil fuels has since been replaced. it took over sixty years from the first public experiments after the initial accidental discovery in queensland to widespread distribution throughout the country.

dotted around our streets are these branded steel grates testament to the early forefather companies who helped shape very different looking cities to what we see today. there are literally hundreds of different variations, all gorgeous in their own utilitarian aesthetic, documenting a tiny historical urban chapter.

with the rapidly changing inconstant city face, one day they just might not be there anymore, these humble icons underfoot of yesteryear.

do you know the way to shell beach?

scattered with the golden leaves

somehow, somewhere today in between these various destinations whilst soaking up the colours & ambience of autumn and ineptly juggling time [my arch-nemesis], a phone, camera, laptop & diary i managed to leave my mobile for the second time in three days in a city cab.

if only there was a prize for being scattered to the four winds...

this time there was no happy ending & i had to cum on my own tits [in red, orange, yellow & brown]. all of this unfairly dwarfed what was a beautiful golden day which hovered around the 15 degrees celcius mark with crisp blue skies and gargantuan cottonwool cumulus clouds. perfect fare for scarves & mittens [which are still on my person].

now i pay the price for an unbacked-up phone when i should know better & a directory of 500 odd missing phone numbers. if you are one of them, please ET phone home.

unboxing the corner shop

today clare & i faced the pyramid of boxes in our new production office. punk monk propaganda has officially moved from the warehouse to the corner shop + what we lost in magical event space and square meterage i guess we make up for in lack of TB infused air with facilities which actually work.

my nostalgia for the hidden squalid squatlike conditions partially inhibited future perspective but with only a slightly heavy heart we faced the parcels & with superlative tetris-like skill kept going until the crazy music stopped and we were both due in our other manifestations in far off magic lands elsewhere.

anyway, end result is we're getting there. it's a little stark & overloaded but somehow we will fit into this space + infuse it with some suitable punk monk branded wonderlab feel good flavour without emmulating a sardine-filled nachau-bound train carriage.

it won't result in the instant lust-filled awe that the warehouse commanded but there's a little irreverent je nais se quoi which we can build on. the prologue & chapter one are done, the set-up laid out, it's now time for the plotline to unfold.

bowls inspector

sometimes i find myself in weird places...

this particular day it was an artificial wonderland where one is supposed to have a custom designed good time. the whole environment at strike bowling bar in the city is built for fun with a capital F [PS. tone is purposefully ambiguous]. justin hemmes' the ivy meets sega world. interesting fusion...

a submit & love big brother or fight/flight conundrum occurred. kylie minogue in the height of her singing budgie incarnation was playing at the time "i should be so lucky", so run run away was my first response [after taking these pics]. i'm listening to it now again at full throttle to get back into the zone. method writing really has a lot to answer for [hope my neighbour enjoys it as much as i don't]. more wine is clearly required.

this is the kind of place i can't decide whether i should be wearing a raver version of princess leia's "jabba the hut" outfit on a self-contained leash fueled by crack or a shape-shifting philip K dick scamble suit to blend with the prevalent clashing patterns whilst surreptitiously stroking myself in the corners whilst sucking up the glow babies. it's a toughie.

what i am excited about is that no matter what outfit i do choose that there is a new fluro trash activity to add to the punk monk group activities list. we may all have to be naked, snort roach powder & cover our bodies in glow-in-the-dark paint but it's potentially part of the private function fun. besides we actually do still have a truckload of that stuff... & a camera or two.

alchemists at play

ALGAE RHYTHM 0:02 -- psychochemical. during.

gently guided by kate and alex, with clare & myself lurking protectively in the shadows flanked by the rest of the tribe [stevie, raen, derm, andy, barry, davey]: mad science was begotten by sangria, culminated through projections of light, liquid & sound, accented by a magic eye exhibition & a hands-on interactive artistic corner for those whose chosen medium was paint [and other bits].

throw into the mix punk monk propaganda's created ALGAE RHYTHM 0:01 zaireeka film, issue two of our customized handmade zine [now in colour] & an adjunct screening of cyber punk film, a scanner darkly and an entire warehouse stripped & redesigned for the event then restocked with food to share...

no-frills punk alchemy results in mega production value. thanks to the fifty people who came & ran with the active participatory challenge of contributing to a very special event.

ALGAE RHYTHM 0:03 will be appearing in the same backstreet block in june 09. please check our FB page for updates.

mirror image

these mirrors, like tree rings, determine the tangible measurement of being. two kindred spirits superficially differentiated by separate circles. mutual reflection defiant of a three dimensional paradigm.

may day

not a distress signal as such, more the best excuse for procrastination. instead of packing an avalanche of boxes to shift an ad hoc chaos-filled film studio between buildings, it's much more fun to go walking & soak up the autumn air...

today is may day. although it loses some of its impact in the southern hemisphere, this age old customary rites of passage from spring equinox to summer solstice still fills the air with magic as the sun sits low & heavy in the brightly lit sky.

this is my favorite month of the year. it reeks of infinite possibilities, the winter spring. as a gemini, perhaps i lose objectivity but that's just how it is. cool skin-kissing air, golden light, hats, boots, scarves, puddles to splash in, evening fires, red wine & crunchy earthen kaleidescope leaves underfoot -- what's not to love?

no may poles in sight [yet] but in a few days time there will be one in my warehouse for the full moon so the wild nymphs & beasts can come out to play & celebrate belatedly this seasonal shift & a myriad of special days which lie betwixt as the final twilight of occupation draws near.

in some countries may day is celebrated as a labour day being synonymous with the development of the workers movement internationally. it is traditionally a day for the people. not boxes [or ducks in new zealand].

go ask alice

snapping the pink lady down into the subway is a bit like following surrealistic pillow's white rabbit. imagery from real life influences work on a fantastical level just as well as literate. if not better.

psychedelics are an unnecessary adjunct but a comfortable theta wave perceptionary injection, an old friend over for dinner. and what of the girl leaving the RTA with the fabulous pins?

thousands of stories everywhere, imaginary or not. invent your own.
