NYE live google stream on the 2:12

jumped on the 2:12... azealia banks & i are like "that". although i appear to be on more amphetamines than her... punk monk propaganda represent. and yes, we love safe sex.

now that we're back in town the punk monk edit team [em, stevie, bunk & me] will actually finish our crowd sourced film, but this is the roughcut we managed to get out for NYE at peats ridge 2011.

fried sushi love

bondi beach has fried mars bars. ashfield has fried sushi. and boy do they do it in style.

after a morning of perusing car sales yards admiring 4WDs this is where stevie & i found ourselves on the eternal quest for the perfect fish 'n' chips before we left hurredly accompanied by dolly parton singing "joelene" blaring from our newly acquired rust-ridden to-be-gaffered-together mountain meets production landcruiser bundeena wheels.

needless to say, we're still looking for the perfect chippie but if there was a quintessential golden fried sushi vendor this would have to be it... it's a tough niche to fill.

burlesque betty spares rib

dita von teese is the undisputed queen of burlesque but she is a late yet very worthy commercially accessible heir to the throne of a tradition which has its roots steeped in athenian history, courtesan/stuntwoman flavoured intrigue AND massive misconception swathed in lashings of luxurious colour, texture & bauble...

burlesque was commonly appropriated by blue collar workers in the european but more recently founding american tradition & turned into something bawdier than arguably originially intended. almost synonymous with striptease until the recent public re-education it is an artform under constant reinterpretation & reinvention. but still it's often reduced to: "when do ya get your gear off..."

unattainable objects of desire are so much more fun when slowly unwrapped or not even at all... playing hard to get is one of the oldest yet most pleasurable torturous games of all. *adopts mental note*

true burlesque is about the art of tease but in many ways it embraces less is more which doesn't necessarily equate to fewer layers or none. it's all about seductive mystery with a dash of vaudeville thrown in for good measure. burlesque is an art form. period. her executors are superbly talented performers which obviously like anything is modified by degrees.

sometimes a carefully revealed [and well turned] ankle is enough to induce the required hysteria & longing. those greek soldiers were mere putty in their scheming wives hands post peloponnesian war days. couple that coquettish ankle several hundred years later with sheer stockings, rigorous dance routines & bite-sized pieces of thigh flashing & the sublime decadence of moulin rouge is born.

fast track to mid 20th century to betty page & marilyn monroe who were modern female heroines who embraced the dichotomous tradition of exaggerated subtlety with measurable cult effect.

there are mathematical equations which formulate masculine desire to the proportions of womanhood & with the aid of a corset, the achieved hourglass figure becomes tangible. swooning becomes de rigeur [through lack of breath]. actually this is really a fallacy: a correctly fitted corset should do nothing of the sort.

this past weekend i strapped myself in courtesy of the excuse of my wonderful friend karina's burlesque birthday party & was almost diasppointingly able to achieve raptuous breath when presented with ample opportunity without so much as busting a rib. i have jo at sydney's house of fetish to thank for always looking after me so very well & being the professional corset lacer with inimitable but up close personal pizazz.

...and for the most part at that party [from recollection] we all retained our clothes. our dignity on the other hand is an entirely different topic.

[thanks to marianne whose photos i have slightly pilfered as my camera maintained a low profile for the night. the only in focus shot was at the hands of AB.]

ishtar's devotees dance

last night was another punk monk propaganda inspired event: "suck my pagan" this time hosted by stevie & myself in honor of his birthday at the warehouse.

amongst the debris of streamers and broken fawn hearts a few photos survived. the usual suspects may be assured as per standard procedure the rest will surface in my updated FB photo album in due course.

this is a mere morsel of the party which went till the full moon was no longer visible in the morning sky & the mead from the earth ran dry... and yes, we did build a full-sized carnival maypole for the day: stevie's pièce de résistance! ornate cloaks and capes were de rigueur, as were flower garlands, ivy and daisy chains. a sight to behold even with the temporary but beautifully averted pole collapse.

heads up to matthieu for volunteering for the role of undercover helper during the unglamorous sunlight hours when a strict self-flagellating monastic life was beckoning hard. french art directors make excellent chivalrous slaves.

plus a big thank you to all our friends who helped especially raen, davey, kate, barry and the rest of you who made the pilgrimage to suck my pagan, our last big party at the warehouse, well worthy of remembrance.

once again i'm humbled by your beauty & love. it's ok to sound like a born-again hippie after such a feel-good earthly event...

KINO = the new religion

KINO is so much more than an underground film movement.

we have the photographic evidence that it's also a cult religion, stomping ground for all emerging artists, furniture removalist company, dating agency, AA adjunct, friend finder, short stay accommodation provider, networking hub, multimedia initiative and mega party planner.

so if it's a hook-up you're after [in all of it's various guises] & you might want to make/critique/watch a film along the way... come find us at sydney KINO. you will undoubtedly sight some punk monkeys en route carrying a couch, camera or escaping sex-crazed groupies by climbing trees.
