leaning tower of piss

it's saturday night. we're at roller derby. suicide seating ringside. it's half-time.

obviously an appropriate opportunity to create our own spectacular spectacular scene freshly inspired by all those lycra-clad bottoms which have flown like flirtatious bumping & grinding birds before our very eager eyes. ky has to keep her restless hands busy [look at her happy little face].

she builds a recycled tower with our empties. quite the talent in her own right. an audience slowly draws.

kate looks on, waiting for the inevitable. our neighbour is suitably impressed. the tower is at skyscraper proportions. comparably.

it's all very hilarious. there's a direct correlation with the amount of empty bottles/glasses in the tower to the degree of laughter which ensues. it is a pretty tall structure. right now, everything seems fairly amusing. we're driven by all sorts of intoxication.

ky pushes the limits [how unusual]. the tower is no more.

kate still manages to look surprised. and there's still another half to go... it is a good night.

[next installment with bottoms. coming V soon.]

fujiyama mama eats brain shortcake

before discovering merzbow & japanese noise artists this was my favourite all-time japanese album. i practically played this CD to death in the nineties.

pizzicato five opened up the doorway to shonen knife, petty booka [not one but two ukeleles!!], TsuShiMaMiRe [♥♥♥♥♥], noodles & their fun nihonjin punk girl band ilk. these chicks go off.

seriously, what's not to love?

graffiti with nature

graffiti is often credited with being spawned from urban sprawl & popularised in the 70s political meets gang "pioneering" movement which traversed the city of new york spilling out into its streets & subways.

but this is not the case at all. like almost everything in this alleged fifth age of the sun, our history is that of reinvention. the desire & ability to make a mark, artistically impress, juxtapose or tag our environment has roots steeped in the very origins of humankind. ancient tribal mementos still stain paths of ochre in caves from humanity's earliest days.

so called higher & lower forms of art wedged into close association with those who have come before & after sharing the same canvas. it is refreshing to embrace the space & take the art back from whence it once came.

there are pros & cons to having more space on a dance floor. either results in entirely different forms of experimental expressionism. but more elbow room is wonderful. a different rhythm is afforded when there's room to groove. and fresh air/canvas to breathe.

i follow craig bunker AKA bunkwaa, beloved graffiti artist, preferred alien & lightbearer of laughter. his icons are ubiquitous in the inner west scape of sydney & adelaide too but today his creatures are way out of town on a new-found quest. it is the beginning. the place of doors. we're not on google maps now dorothy.

the objective according to bunkwaa: is making the familar unfamilar, playing with the environment. reacting & responding to it.

nature versus nurture. escape from the hedonism of jungles urban. reverted expansionism starts here, graffiti style.

the bunkwaa characters are erroneous entities that dwell in the hidden folds of this dimension. they live off the energy that comes from human emotions & desires. in a forest once we leave, do they even still exist. or will they self-sustain & take-over?

this little guy obviously belongs here.

there's limited documentation of other current artists working with natural scapes although i've really been enjoying the work of erik myxa [halitov] a siberian graffiti artist whose work is really inspiring if not somewhat upscale.

russia actually has a really cool scene. not since christo and jeanne-claude have i seen such awesome, fun & ultimately subversive environmental based works of art.

christo & jeanne claude [the christos] were popular heroes in my youth. i pinned their work on my walls & fell in love with their politicized artworks which ran amok over world landscapes.

viewed by millions of people, the umbrella series segregated & unified perception throughout continents where the work was featured in blue [japan] and yellow [USA] & enabled people to interact beyond their vehicle with not just the installations but the social, cultural and physical restrictions which typified the bureaucratic functions which they sought to illustrate metaphorically. one had to travel not just emotionally to engage with their works.

who is to say which is the alien? the motifs, the man, or the environment...

boogiemen & faerie tales

i always had a bit of a crush on bin laden. there i've said it. at the time of 9-11 when his image was being touted as the face of villainy i looked into his eyes & saw beauty. purity of ideology. in war, god is always on your side. this man looked enlightened. perhaps it wasn't in a fanatical zealot way that we were being spoon-fed to believe. what if everything we were being told wasn't true?

if he was going to be the USA preferred poster patsy boy for evil i thought they'd really chosen the wrong guy with a beard for the job. no wonder he had all those wives. i considered going to find him to join the queue. send me to guantanamo bay now.

i wasn't going to write about this because everyone else is an overnight expert but i do want to comment on how utterly fascinating it is to witness that the edicts of time, power of education or access to information have not softened the indelible stamp of propaganda. it is a calculated steamroller which decimates logic in the wake of mob mentality under the veneer of authority.

the milgram social psychology experiments following observations of human behavior in nazi germany effectively demonstrated the development of this obedience to authority behavior.  psychology & mass media together make an invincible marriage. which makes the now absolute worldwide monopoly of our media channels intensely terrifying. we look at china or north korea and tsk quietly. ha!

last year sydney film festival screened "the game of death" the french take on milgram's experiments flipped into a reality TV facade. people still respond the same way & the vast majority accept and act under the directions of authority completely overriding the dictums of reason: question authority. and we wonder why people aren't being encouraged to study history or the humanities any longer. the government does not want the people to think.

george orwell's nightmare complete, we live under the facade of freedom, we love big brother. anything i or my "conspiracy theory" ilk say can't be true. we have become dangerous thinkers. if what we said was true the people would hear about it... right?

rupert murdoch's piece of rag the daily telegraph isn't even worth wiping one's ass on these days. nothing more than a cheap sensationalist tabloid in the guise of a newspaper these images are from this week. hardly the face of objective journalism... this obituary ran on the back pages of the paper. one could be mistaken for believing it was documented cyberpunk satire to be found in a philip k dick book or from paul verhoeven's screen adaption of heinlein's starship troopers.... do you want to be a citizen?

i don't know when/if/how bin laden ever lived or died. at what point did the CIA fabrication start and end? since 9-11 i've read widely & have a number of theories but most importantly understand that when it suited the US like their other toxic relationships with fingers in every self-interested pie, they have been very close to the bin ladens. very close indeed.

with friends like the US, one never needs another enemy. are our MTV memories that short term?

we all know now that there were no WMD. at least not outside the twin towers. except for the deluded who still believe in the faerie tales generated by government despite what history & sun tzu tell us. with a population now officially at 7 billion people the powerful are fighting & scrambling over control of natural resources & the money go-round. oil/water/air/information is power.

the US are the master of political distraction when it comes to international policy & announcements. timing is everything. nothing happens by accident. there is no coincidence.

it's unlikely there were any planes involved in 9-11 or anyone involved outside the USA & israel. lee harvey oswald, ted kaczynski [the unabomber], osama bin laden all demonized sacrificial designer boogiemen burdened by ex-CIA military backgrounds. sometimes i wonder if the towers were even real. but when i went there sometime later the eeriness of the walled tomb was all pervasive. innocents/political pawns died there. they were dispensable. we all [well about 90% of 7 billion] are.

but i do know that most other people don't know about the actual truth of bin laden either. when analysing propaganda on the degree that we are subjected to on multiple levels it is almost impossible to separate influences & stand true without reacting or responding to the stimuli we are soaking in. one can question & reject everything or not. it's trickier to take a little from column A & B.

the methodology of seeking alternate news sources is increasingly difficult with the degree of mis/disinformation deliberately propagated to disrupt the signal to noise ratio. the internet is a double edged sword. there is such a thing as too much information and trawling through it all is an overwhelming task. needles in a haystack.

but like fox mulder says: the truth is out there. the world government & rupert murdoch just don't want us to find it.

RIP. osama bin laden.

greening fashion up

so... it's rosemount australia fashion week for those who don't know their zimmerman from their alex perry. although fashion is paying lip service to the concept of sustainability & awareness is on the rise of the direct ecological impact the industry has on the environment it's barely more than a brief puff-powdered great auntie cheek peck.

enter kristin & her inimitable team at the clothing exchange who last night ran an awesomely attended clothes swap at opera australia with drinking nemesis - greenups who've been lurking about on the socio-political bar scene for over a year now. green drinking for green thinking.

utter babe jess miller, who hosted the evening is obviously passionate about the cause & possibilities of not just the reinvention of vintage which is the now ubiquitous gentrification of old school op-shopping [bah] but the possibilities of reshaping & utilising existing pieces into entirely new ones. dust off your nana's sewing machine, safety pins, or velcro now... and start wetting your lips.

did you know that the average global footprint for a pair of jeans is 11 000 litres of water? recycling clothes actually has a huge beneficial impact. in the end we come back to reduce, reuse, recycle and clothes swaps help reroute pre-loved items back into the loop.

in typical style i arrived late & neglected to bring my swapping items. to partake one needs to bring items to surrender into the fold which earns tokens or buttons with which to shop for new items. planning some mayhem snapping, hoping for some bitch-slapping boxing day like sales action i kicked back quietly on the side, champagne glass & killer heels teetering in parallel. then something sparkly caught this magpie's eye...

i was ambushed by unshakeable shrug love. this is becoming a recurring punk monk theme. a heavenly place where doilies & shawls meet. but i had no tokens/buttons. dilemma.

immediately i set out begging the dispirited gentlemen standing on the sideline who woefully derided the inadequacy of the mens' area. their loss was almost my gain. except they'd already given away their buttons. and so the hunt began.

in fifteen minutes i was rewarded by not one but a handful of buttons generously donated by random people who empathised with my plight & really do embrace the concept of sharing is caring. like a slow lingering kiss. no lip service here rosemount! and i made several friends along the way... thanks marty.

better still unlike that other wine sponsored fashion event - the sweet nectar coming out of my flute was actually extremely quaffable. the fab food & flavour fiends love grub  weren't just bringing it with the solids, their sustainable liquids go off too!

spruiked "the habitat" wine is harvested from sustainable vineyards & comes packaged in "lean green" bottles which reduce weight and carbon impact with recycled paper labels. i know this because i did stay till the 13th hour & help finish the empties. ever the good samaritan. no wonder the photos came out this colour!

here is my happy ending. a pile of pre-loved clothes generously donated from new friends' extra buttons following the sage advice from tina ann taralus one time stylist with louis vuitton who gave us all our battle instructions pre swap:

UNIVERSAL SWAP GUIDELINES:

THREE DON'TS
1. don't swap one fashion disaster for another.

2. don't take an item because it's vintage or a specific label. say no to sass & bide jeans if they're going to cut your ass or legs in half.

3. say no to wrong size or shape.

THREE DOS
1. remember what suits you.

2. pay homage to colours which you like and like you back. unrequited love is so miserable. even with clothes.

3. take a risk. break rules and tradition.

not sure whether i broke the rules or not? i think i suit a sparkly shrug... and i'll make it as risky as possible depending whether i wear anything else with it. perhaps just one more well placed lipstick smeared glass of wine. greenups is all about kiss & tell fashion sustainability after all.

open source ecology

by jove, i think she's got it!

the normally impeccable miss audrey hepburn becomes undone...

quite undone indeed.

and she's covered in.. SPAIN. like any fair lady requiring decent elocution guidance.

clearly she needs her mouth, if not her entire body, washed out.

very fun minnie moonshine was audrey hepburn at doppelganger dames at tone, sydney where other femme fatales came out to play in the guise of favored counterparts.

for more voyeurism bites stay tuned but even better soak up burlesque in the city direct. there's a delightfully decadent junket of eye candy meets visceral experience with attitude out there.
