leaning tower of piss

it's saturday night. we're at roller derby. suicide seating ringside. it's half-time.

obviously an appropriate opportunity to create our own spectacular spectacular scene freshly inspired by all those lycra-clad bottoms which have flown like flirtatious bumping & grinding birds before our very eager eyes. ky has to keep her restless hands busy [look at her happy little face].

she builds a recycled tower with our empties. quite the talent in her own right. an audience slowly draws.

kate looks on, waiting for the inevitable. our neighbour is suitably impressed. the tower is at skyscraper proportions. comparably.

it's all very hilarious. there's a direct correlation with the amount of empty bottles/glasses in the tower to the degree of laughter which ensues. it is a pretty tall structure. right now, everything seems fairly amusing. we're driven by all sorts of intoxication.

ky pushes the limits [how unusual]. the tower is no more.

kate still manages to look surprised. and there's still another half to go... it is a good night.

[next installment with bottoms. coming V soon.]

gen Z heliocentrism

pierre et gilles meets david la chappelle kitsch this could be sans bush & with somewhat altered production design. this pose makes me want to add glitter, halos, saturation & more but i uncharacteristically restrain myself. this is my idea of a perfect family setting.

the child iconised before the parents who sit back & bask in adulation at her entirely self-aware mischievous glow. she doesn't know about heliocentric cosomology yet. diametrically opposed to copernicus: she is the centre of the universe.

meet my latest muse: this is ruby. she was born to be in front of the camera in a scary way that gen Z can manipulate a camera indiscernible to the naked eye like a sniffer dog from twenty paces away. strike a pose, there's nothing to it - vogue.

naturalism, the rare reward of a studious sniper in a constant tug of war meets hide n seek. not for the impatient.

ruby & i recently shot a film together in the australian museum which took a brief post production hiatus while i melted down & reinvented my personal wheel. with renewed vigor & clarity i'll go back to it in the next couple of weeks & redress the water monsters children mash-up.

she kind of stole the show so in the edit my task is to redress story balance yet to paint a picture which i want to share with deference to the energy contained within the frame. ruby practically burst through it. she's an imitable force.

we're in the mountains for long weekend with a handful of our favourite people in a delightfully mellow meander, untempered by tech issues which could conceivably shut down any other enterprise. just add more mulled wine, easter bunnies & stir. who needs piped-in water & chainsawed wood anyway? chillax is key.

our happy tribe kick back on top of the mountain taking in the last amber rays from the sky & our beer bottles, a little late for the oft stalked magic hour but in time to watch the grand spectacle of the end of the day in a place where no other sign of human habitation can be seen. we have our own civilisation here.

as the sun sets low in the sky, ruby's energy also wanes & we steadfastly make our way down the hill orbiting around her toward the evening bonfire, the celestial sphere's hold still true until the moon frees itself from the horizon. eventually even stars have to sleep.

secret indulgences

on days like these, i remind myself of the wonderful people who surround me. people i call best friends. i owe them my survival. i can't imagine them musing over which funeral song to choose [the jackson five "ABC" please].

and so, i continue to work in a steadfast way occasionally flitting like a butterfly entertaining egg-laying on a large juicy kale leaf [if only there were some uneaten ones left].

the demons squashed beneath the weight of the list of incredible things to do, stories to experience & share.

pick me up at the lounge

i was feeling a bit down so daniel my good samaritan friend & usual suspect at large played knight in shining armour & took me out drinking. philanthropy comes easily to him.

as we both know the answer to your problems can be found at the bottom of the bottle. preferably in one of your favoured hang spots, in this case unpretentious boho cocktail bar meets underground restaurant in one.

this is cafe lounge. dark, kitsch, safe, funky, red. i've been coming here for years. it's still just as good [although it was sexier before they put the outdoor roof on]. damn those natural elements.

and yes, i did feel a lot better after.

charity case

...and then i was rescued from my deliberate hermit-like isolation by these beautiful people who are the poster kids for buddhism & friendship. they even have a benetton baby for christ's sake. eat your heart out angelina, no international adoption papers necessary.

so in the evening i followed up my tinny lunch with something a little more holistic and delicious. although i would like to say my creamed corn was organic.

i am the christmas charity case & thankful for the philanthropists who emerged from blurred shadows [daniel, andrew, claire, marianne, davey] who all tried to rescue me from myself over xmas. the best families are created.

sadly the pool party in the pelting rain was detoured as i passed out on the couch whilst serena and eugene showed me their stunning holiday photos... no, really they were wonderful. life is just so... tiring.

thanks guys, all of you. you are the spirit, the son/daughter and the holy ghost. suddenly i feel quite religious. perhaps that's just the wine/blood i'm drinking.
