fossilized zeros & ones

a long time ago in a land far far away lived these beautiful forgotten petrol bowsers hiding in a magic wilderness behind an iron fence. a distant remnant of an ancient epoch when cars spoke & coughed easily to one another guided by frequent gas injections sans ethanol.

these were mythical times when petrol cost less than 1.00 AUD per litre & the numbers on pump faces clocked around in slow steady smiling clicks as fuel lazily poured aplenty into happily purring slightly less eco-friendly engines.

this place has long since been vanquished by developers but happily enough is now a wonderful subterranean park opposite the chauvel cinema on oxford st, paddington. on a heavy humid day if you get low enough beneath the street level you can still smell the diesel [as the buses grind past].

my secret garden

when the city gets too much, this is where i go to hide. a timeless lost world offering escape & renewal. a place to breathe & think. my very own wild secret garden where i can run amok with the pixies, kangaroos, spiders, snakes & wombats...

sometimes it's so very hard to come back.

hidden emerald city

yesterday i was fortunate enough to stumble upon a secret garden rich in st patrick's hues.

a lost bastion of the wild in sydney's northern suburbs, this roughcut gem is the unkempt rebel of the hood after being forgotten by its owners for the last ten years. in lane cove, this is where the wild things are.

at the end of a long drive it lies hidden amongst its manicured neighbours, playing habitat to the reptiles & spiders which slither & run amok in the wild grass. meanwhile the kitchen windows fringed in 16mm film sit silent, waiting for the wizard to return.
